The Cuckoos climbed out of the relegation zone for the first time since September by continuing their winter purple patch.
Gary Clipston’s men sunk bottom side Desborough in a crunch basement battle – and they had a couple of loan players from Histon to thank.
Joe Asensi made an early breakthrough before debutant Jack Sessions doubled the Cuckoos’ lead just after the break.
Desborough hit back almost immediately and saw a second ‘goal’ in stoppage time ruled out by awell positioned referee for handball as Yaxley breathed a sigh of relief and pocketed the points.
Clipston said: “We’re unbeaten in four games and have taken eight points out of a possible 12 – and that’s not relegation form. It’s been our best run of the season and we’re all delighted to be out of the bottom two, but we know the job of staying up is nowhere near done yet.”
A third Histon youngster, Rhys Williams, was an unused substitute for the Cuckoos.
Yaxley: Jordan, Ridout, Holland, Hailstone, Stone, De Sousa (Rosser), Challinor, Asensi, Smith (Bate), Bettinson, Sessions (Rust). Unused: Williams, Hotchkiss.
