Counties League Cup– Wednesday
14th February S&L Corby (0) - (2) Yaxley A solid team
performance put The Cuckoos through to the last eight of this season's League
Cup with this The first 20
minutes saw S&L launch a determined attack on the visitors, but solid
defending and ‘keeper Phil Dunn again producing a series of confident balletic
saves frustrated their efforts. The Cuckoos methodically worked their way into
the game with confident passing and shots on goal, hitting the woodwork twice
before Scott Bogusz launched a screamer from outside the penalty box to take the
lead in the 32nd minute. The second
half was dominated by Yaxley although the home team were not without their
chances. But the Cuckoos strong defence, confident midfield and a hungry front
line saw Yaxley easily on top with pacey Mark Kingston securing the win on 75
minutes. The smile on
manager Gary Clipston’s face said it all “Everyone played well, the midfield
was creative and worked well both in attack and defence – we deserved it and
the lads are really up for it.” Yaxley
return to League duty with a view of securing all 3 points at Long Buckby on
Saturday – 2:30 KO
