The Cuckoos fell foul of a last ditch goal from S&L having deserved at least a point from this game. S&L opened the game with a 25 minute concentrated attack that was confidently absorbed by the Yaxley defence and the half-time 0-0 scoreline was a fair reflection of the game.

The second half was a different matter as the Cuckoos emerged with determination and aggression, creating a hatful of scoring chances and forcing a string of excellent saves from the home 'keeper. Daniel Fountain looked sure to score with a magnificent 30 yard power volley that the 'keeper only just managed to parry over the bar. Mark Paul, John Olive and Ricky Hailstone all had good scoring opportunities but somehow didn't get the power needed to hit the back of the net.

Manager Gary Clipston was particularly pleased with the performances of John Olive and Daniel Fountain "The two youngsters had excellent games and showed us what they are capable of for next season. I was gutted with the goal that was clearly created from an offside run but the linesman kept his flag down and we didn't react. We deserved at least a point."

Although the Cuckoos are clear of the relegation drop, the manager and the team want to get maximum points to finish as high up the table as possible and were hoping that this game would contribute but it wasn't to be.

However, there was a bright note to the week for the manager - the club's management committee met this week and confirmed him as next seasons 1st team manager.

The Cuckoos travel to Cogenhoe on Saturday for their penultimate game of the season before entertaining Ford Sports (Daventry) on Wednesday 2nd May (7:45pm KO) for their last game.
