United Counties League Premier Division - Saturday 17th March 2007

Desborough Town  2    Yaxley  1

Desborough won the battle of the surprise strugglers at the Waterworks Field. With a successful first-half tactic of kick-and-run, the home team took full advantage of the gusting tail wind and lumpy pitch with Jamie Gilsenan breaking the deadlock after 24 minutes. The Cuckoos struggled to settle in the conditions and rarely threatened in the first half as passes went astray and the ball bobbled and bounced producing unforced error after error.

After the break, Mark Forbes added second for Ar Tarn four minutes in, as the Cuckoos 'keeper let what should have been a comfortable take through his hands. A triple substitution by Gary Clipston with 20 minutes to go injected some energy into their attack and resulted in Mark Paul replying for the Cuckoos with fourteen minutes remaining.

Despite a concerted period of attack that resulted in 8 corners in the last 12 minutes, hitting the woodwork and forcing a tremendous save from the home 'keeper, the Cuckoos were unable to save the game.
