Counties League Premier Division Wednesday
12th September 2007 The Cuckoos tamed The Tigers with 3 goals in the closing stages of this contest to take Yaxley up to 5th in the table. Throughout the game, Yaxley had the edge over Holbeach but just couldn't find the back of the net during the first 45 minutes. After the break the Cuckoos stepped up a gear and battered the Holbeach goal with home 'keeper Nick Conroy forced to pull off a raft of impressive (and some slightly lucky) saves to keep the game even. However, the persistent pressure paid-off when Ian Edge opened the scoring for Yaxley after 74 minutes, and as the Cuckoos piled on the pressure, Holbeach forced a fantastic finger-tip save out of John Feetham at the other end as well as firing wide from a couple of opportunities. Ricky Hailstone netted the Cuckoos' second goal
after 87 minutes with a text-book dead-ball shot and Dominic Henson completed
the scoring in the final minute of the match, following in on Dan Fountain's
powerful ricochet off the post. For the first time in a long time, Clippo's men looked like a solid and unified unit. The defence was totally sound, the mid-field dominated play and distributed the ball well and the forward line forced save after save as well as netting 3. Discipline from the team and the bench was excellent and all in all, a thoroughly good night at Carters Park. Yaxley Man of the Match: "Lenny"
